I was on a Southwest flight earlier this month and received really excellent service from one of the flight attendants. Es biju par Dienvidrietumu lidojums šomēnes un saņēma patiesi izcilu pakalpojumu no viena lidojuma pavadoņi.
I decided I would give her a tip and then stopped: “can we tip flight attendants?” Es nolēmu es dotu viņai galu un tad apstājās: "mēs varam tip reisu pavadoņiem?"
We tip just about every other service employee: waiters, bartenders, cab drivers, barbers, hotel staff & tour guides to name a few. Mēs tip tikai par visu citu pakalpojumu darbinieks: viesmīļu, bārmeņu, CAB šoferi, frizieru, viesnīcas darbinieki un gidiem nosaukt tikai dažas.
But not flight attendants. Bet ne lidojums pavadoņi.
I did some research to find out why. I did kādu pētījumu, lai uzzinātu kāpēc.
Some argue that a flight attendant's role is primarily one of passenger safety not service: we don't tip police officers or firefighters either. Daži apgalvo, ka stjuarte loma ir galvenokārt viena pasažieru drošību ne serviss: mēs tip policistiem vai ugunsdzēsējiem vai nu.
I find this explanation a little dubious: yes a flight attendant's primarily role is to ensure passengers complete the trip safely but so is a cab driver's… Man šis skaidrojums nedaudz apšaubāma: jā stjuarts ir galvenais uzdevums ir nodrošināt pasažieriem pabeigt ceļojumu droši, bet tā ir kabīne vadītāja ...
Others argue that, until recently anyway, passengers did not exchange cash with flight attendants and therefore no one tipped them. Citi uzskata, ka vēl nesen anyway, pasažieriem nav maiņas naudas ar reisu pavadoņiem un tādēļ neviens salocīt uz tiem.
Again, dubious: you rarely if ever buy a tour ticket from the guide yet giving the guide a tip for a job well done is an accepted practice. Atkal, apšaubāmu: jūs reti, ja kādreiz iegādāties ceļojuma biļetes no guide vēl dod guide tip par labi padarītu darbu ir vispārpieņemta prakse.
The most plausible answer, to me at least, is that the original role of flight attendants was one of medical safety (all flight attendants had to be nurses in the early days of commercial flight). Visvairāk ticams atbildēt, man vismaz ir tā, ka sākotnējā loma reisu pavadoņiem bija viena no medicīnas drošība (visi lidojuma pavadoņiem bija medmāsu pirmajās dienās komerciālo lidojumu). No one tips doctors and nurses and the “tradition” has held to this day even though the nurse requirement was relaxed during World War II and eventually done away with. But no one really seems to know why we don't tip flight attendants. Bet neviens tiešām šķiet, zināt, kāpēc mums nav tip reisu pavadoņiem.
I ended up tipping the flight attendant on the Southwest flight. I beidzās izgāšanas stjuarts par Dienvidrietumu lidojumu.
It wasn't her first tip. Tā nebija viņa pirmā tip.
Maybe cultural norms are changing. Varbūt kultūras normas ir mainīgas.
