The Evacuation Of New Orleans Went Great. The Re-Entry Is Being Botched.
You have to give credit when credit is due.
Those who planned and orchestrated the recent evacuation of metro New Orleans in advance of Hurricane Gustav deserve great credit: by all accounts almost 2 million people were moved out of harm’s way within 48 hours with minimal loss of life.

You shouldn’t have to pay a penalty to use your own money.
I read an article in The Wall Street Journal over the weekend that described the “rules” for accessing your money in an IRA.[1]
“The Internal Revenue Service does let you withdraw money from your individual retirement account, as long as you replace it within 60 days. But if you miss the deadline, you have to pay income tax on the amount you took out. (For folks under the age 59 ½, there is also a 10% penalty.)” Read more

The price for pretending like Pakistan is our ally is going up.
The Taliban recently attacked a US base in eastern Afghanistan near the border with Pakistan.
The attack was coordinated and large: reports indicate about 200 Taliban fighters attacked the US outpost (I remember hearing on the news that US forces were about 40-50 men strong but I cannot find a reference) with both sides suffering heavy causalities. 9 American soldiers were killed and 15 wounded before the enemy was driven back. Following this deadly strike, US commanders are finally getting vocal about the biggest problem in the Afghan theater: Pakistan. Read more
